The Makor Rishon newspaper, read by many rightwing Israelis, will now be distributed to IDF soldiers on duty, the Defense Ministry recently revealed to Science Minister Daniel Hershkowitz. The change came in response to a question by Hershkowitz to Defense Minister Ehud Barak's office asking why the IDF did not fund purchases of the paper, as it did for other publications, such as Yediot Achronot and Maariv.
Hershkowitz said Tuesday that "it is common practice for the IDF to buy the national newspapers for soldiers, and it was unclear why this was not the case with Mekor Rishon until now. I am glad that the situation has been rectified," he said.
