Twenty four former German diplomats called Tuesday on German Chancellor Andrea Merkel to increase the pressure on Israel to recognize Hamas as an important factor in the peace process. The diplomats further urged the EU to stop business and diplomatic ties with Israel until progress is made in the peace process.
"The Geneva Platform should be the basis for the resolution of the conflict, which should include talks with Hamas," the diplomats said. "Israel cannot hope to have both peace and territory."
