The Ministerial Committee on Law has decided to oppose a measure proposed by MK Yaakov Katz (Ketzaleh) that would require Mks to declare loyalty to the state when taking office. The bill, set for its first reading Wednesday, is thus not considered likely to pass.

In text accompanying the bill, MK Katz said that "loyalty to the state is one of the building blocks of democracy. Loyalty to the principles they were chosen on the basis of is not just proper behavior in a democratic country, but also – and essentially – the basis of a moral society."
