Livni: True Israeli Initiative Needed to Fight Others

Opposition Leader Tzipi Livni said Monday that "A genuine, sincere Israeli initiative with the significance of an historic decision and not just temporary decisions is the only thing that will remove proposals, ideas, and dictates - in Swedish, Arabic, French or English - from the table." The Kadima party leader spoke at a meeting of the party's Knesset faction regarding a Swedish plan to be discussed by European Union foreign ministers this week to endorse the division of Jerusalem to be the capital of Israel and an Arab state that the Palestinian Authority (PA) is threatening to declare unilaterally.

Livni noted that a year ago, when Kadima was in power, the world supported the negotiations that were conducted between Israel and the PA. She added that international support still had to be recruited.
