Residents of Ashkelon are set to turn their lights out Sunday night at 8 PM for one hour, in protest over the construction of a coal-powered electricity plant in the area. Over 250,000 protesters from Ashkelon and surrounding towns are expected to participate in the protest.
On Tuesday, the Copenhagen Summit on Climate Change, where countries from around the world are expected to renew their commitment to fighting pollution, opens. The protests in Ashkelon was timed to register residents' outrage over the power plant with the Summit.
