The attack in Damascus Thursday morning occurred near Khomeini Hospital, named after the late Iranian Islamist dictator Ayatollah Khomeini. Witnesses said that there was much damage to the hospital. Syrian troops were racing to the scene to assist what witnesses said were "many casualties" resulting from the attack on a bus next to an important Shiite religious site.
Witnesses also said that the explosion may have been caused by rockets, and not a bomb.
