Kadima chairwoman Tsipi Livni called on the Swiss government Tuesday not to "set the results of the negotiations in advance" by recognizing eastern Jerusalem as the capital of a Palestinian state that was not even in existence. "Based on the disturbing reports of the European Union's position on Jerusalem, I express my trepidation over what appears to be an attempt to decide in advance the results of the sensitive negotiations between Israel and the Palestinian Authority on a final status solution," Livni wrote in a letter to the Swiss Foreign Ministry. Switzerland currently holds the EU presidency.

"I urge you to avoid taking any stand on Jerusalem," Livni wrote. "I believe all sides should restart negotiations from the point they broke off. Any attempt to predetermine results for one side or the other is unhelpful and erroneous," Livni wrote.
