The prosecution is demanding a much harsher punishment for Assad Shibli, the Arab who killed nine-year-old Tal Zino with an all-terrain vehicle in Kfar Tavor on Yom Kippur Eve 2007. Shibli was convicted of manslaughter charges and sentenced to nine years in prison.
The prosecution filed a petition with the High Court Sunday, demanding a harsher sentence. In a statement, prosecutors said that "the punishment Shibli received does not reflect the seriousness of his actions." Given Shibli's "criminal act, in which he showed no responsibility for others to the lowest degree, and related to the entire incident as a 'traffic accident,'" he should have been punished with a much more serious punishment that the one usually associated with a mere accident.
