Itai Zar to Face Court Hearing Sunday

Itai Zar of the Havat Gilad village in Samaria is scheduled for a court hearing Sunday morning in Kfar Saba. Zar was arrested last week by police who illegally entered his office without a search warrant and detained him despite not having a court order for his arrest. Four non-Jewish border patrol soldiers have testified that Zar slashed the tires of a jeep a few days earlier. Havat Gilad villagers and their supporters have dismissed the claim as a blatant fabrication and provocation against local residents.

David Ha'ivri of the Shomron Liaison Office told Israel National News that he hopes the harassment of local community leaders will stop. “Itai is the owner of a local building company that employs over fifty people from neighboring Jewish communities. He is a family man and a leader in Havat Gilad. This arrest is clearly an effort to break the sprit of the community but will not succeed. Havat Gilad has recently been adopted by the Jewish community in Melbourne Australia. Members of that community are planning on building homes and opening business here to strengthen the village.”
