Chairman Shmuel (Zangi) Medad of the Honenu organization was released from custody Thursday night, three days after he was arrested by police at the Tarkumia checkpoint for interfering with a police officer after he failed to produce identity papers that police demanded as a requirement to enter the area near his home. During court hearings on police requests to extend his remand, Medad told a magistrate that in his group's role of providing legal aid to residents of Judea and Samaria, he was known to law enforcement officials, and the demand for ID was politically motivated.

The police initially refused to return Medad's weapon and threatened to ask the Interior Ministry to invalidate his weapons license, but eventually yielded and returned the weapon to Medad.
