The Israel Defense Forces disclosed Thursday evening that it discovered an explosive device weighing about 15-kilogram/33-pounds near the Egyptian border Thursday morning. During the controlled detonation of the device, it became clear that the device was very powerful and meant to cause serious damage.
The IDF Spokesperson's Office says the device was found in a bag in an area where an army patrol identified a suspicious-looking man who appeared intent on infiltrating Israel Wednesday evening. When the patrol followed arrest procedures, including firing shots in the air, the suspect threw away a bag before fleeing.
