A special gathering on military morality was held Monday to mark the fifth anniversary of the death of former minister and Israel Defense Forces Chief-of-Staff Rafel Eitan, who was known by the nickname Raful. Among the participants was Reserves General and former Member of Knesset Moshe Peled, who told Arutz Sheva's Hebrew news journal, "We are the most moral army in the world. The best of our sons have been killed because we have insisted not to hurt enemy civilians."
During the gathering, Peled recalled how, during Eitan's days as a brigade commander, many died while guarding innocent Arabs. He had other examples from other periods of modern Israel's military history. He contrasted them with the United States' nuclear leveling of the cities of Hiroshima and Nagasaki to end World War II.
