The Chief Rabbi of Be'er Sheva, Rabbi Yehuda Deri, sent a letter to Ilan Karni, Director of the Metro Dan bus company, requesting that he immediately stop running busses on Saturday and "desecrating the Sabbath".

According to Rabbi Deri, he has received many letters from residents protesting the desecration of the Sabbath in the city.
