Peres Goes Political:Ben-Gurion Supported Dividing Land

The supposedly neutral position of Israeli President received another slap in the face from current President Shimon Peres who this time used former Israeli Prime Minister David Ben-Gurion to promote his leftwing outlook. Speaking at Midreshet Sde Boker on the anniversary of Ben Gurion’s passing, Peres claimed that Ben-Gurion supported dividing the Land of Israel and that the current government should too.

“Perhaps today just one small action separates us from ending the conflict with the Palestinians," said Peres.  "The current government can and should do so. The painful solution of dividing the land into two states for two peoples was taken on by David Ben Gurion. Today it is accepted by most of the real people",

Last week Peres caused waves when he lauded former Meretz Party leader Yossi Beilin saying he was "still right" even though he was in the minority.
