Chairman Daniel Hershowitz of the Bayit Yehudi (Jewish Home - New National Religious Party) said on Sunday that a government bill to fight evasion of military service by girls falsely claiming religious grounds is "good and appropriate". The bill passed by the ministerial committee on legislation would track the girls asking for the exemption.

Hershkowitz said the Israel Defense Forces must fight the shirking of IDF service and increase enforcement. He added that in contrast to a bill by Kadima Member of Knesset Yisrael Hasson, the government bill does not make all religious girls suspects and allows truly religious girls to qualify for the exemption, even if they learn in a non-religious framework.
