An Israel Defense Forces unit thwarted an attempt to smuggle drugs into Israel from the Sinai desert on Sunday afternoon. While on patrol along the Egyptian border, the unit spotted a number of suspects who had infiltrated into Israeli territory and called on them to stop. When they did not respond, the soldiers followed the procedure for executing an arrest, which included firing at the suspects.

Two of the suspects were wounded and received treatment on the spot. They were found to be in possession of a suspicious substance, and were turned over to security services for investigation.
