Justice Minister Yaakov Ne'eman said at Sunday's cabinet meeting that he would choose his recommendation for the new Attorney General from among four candidates suggested by a special search committee headed by former High Court Justice Theodore Orr.
The four candidates include Attorney Yehuda Weinstein, former Central District Prosecutor, Attorney Tzvi Agmon, a former law partner of former Supreme Court Justice Mishael Heshin, Prof. Yedidya Stern, former head of Bar Ilan University’s Law Department, and Prof. Dafna Barak-Erez of Tel Aviv University. Ne'eman said he would start interviewing the candidates immediately.
Ne'eman said he would submit to a request by Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu to consider the four candidates first – but that he would seek outside candidates if he did not think they were qualified. Netanyahu asked that if he did decide to seek outside candidates, he inform the government before doing so.
