Defense Minister Ehud Barak said at the government discussion over the appointment of the next attorney general that “the appointment must in no way be tied to the candidate's agreement to the splitting of the attorney general's roles.”
"The Labor [party] will support the appointment of the attorney general only if he is one of the four candidates who were recommended by the Orr committee,” he said. He added that the rules for voting in the committee need to be change in accordance with recommendations made by Minister Benny Begin.
