Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu told ministers Sunday that he planned to visit a battered women's shelter later in the day.

"This is a very serious problem,” he said. “There is an estimate in the world that one-third of women experience violence once in their lives. One study shows that there are 150,000 battered women in Israel.”

The validity of the study referred to by Netanyahu is hotly disputed by men's rights activists and pro-family groups.
