Rabbi Yitzchak Zev Wolpe Dies at 87

Rabbi Yitzchak Zev Wolpe, who was a prominent leader of the Chabad movement in Jerusalem, died on Saturday at the age of 87. Rabbi Wolpe was the son-in-law of Rabbi Azriel Zalig Slonim, who was himself considered a great Torah leader amongst the Chabad-Lubavitch Hasidim.

Rabbi Wolpe was the director of Israel Discount Bank of Jerusalem’s Geula neighborhood branch for many years and was known for his charity and benevolence to others. Since retiring from his work at the bank, he reportedly spent many hours learning Torah and Hassidut. Rabbi Wolpe was the father of Rabbi Shalom Dov Wolpe of Kiryat Gat, who is an active fighter in the struggle to maintain Jewish sovereignty over the entire Land of Israel.

Rabbi Wolpe is being buried tonight at the Har HaMenuchot cemetery in Jerusalem.
