Chairman Meri Sheetrit of the Knesset Science and Technology Committee introduced legislation this week to require all buses and trucks in Israel to be equipped with the Electronic Stability Program system which automatically applies the brakes when it detects that the steering is out of control.

The system is supposed to prevent a vehicle from getting into an extremely dangerous situation that could lead to an accident. The vehicles would also be fitted with an electric eye to warn a driver if another vehicle or pedestrian that the driver cannot see is too close. The bill includes tax incentives for installation of the system.
