Defense Minister Ehud Barak said Wednesday night that "we must act sternly against the phenomena of refusal in the IDF and even consider measures against individual rabbis who encourage refusal."

However, Barak said "if we can settle the issue without closing off the valves to the yeshivas, it's better." The Defense Minister also said "let's not to stand with a stopwatch in hand regarding the treatment of refusal.”
