The main gate of the IDF's largest air force base in the Negev, the Nevatim base, will be closed until further notice – because of violence by Bedouins in the area, a report on Channel 1 said Tuesday.

According to soldiers serving on the base, Bedouins in the area throw stones at soldiers and pilots traveling the main highway at night, and many have had flat tires because of spikes and nails the Bedouin set up on the road. IDF official were said to be very concerned about the phenomenon, because all of the IDF's training bases are set to be transferred to the Negev in the coming years. An IDF spokesperson said that the road was closed out of "concern for the lives of those serving on the base," without specifying what those concerns were.
