Residents of the Shaar Hanegev Council region are scheduled to demonstrate Tuesday against a proposed coal-powered electric plant for Ashkelon when the Knesset Enivronmental Quality Committee meets at Sapir College in Sderot. High school students will be among the demonstrators.

The committee is meeting at the college in the framework of the 2009 Sderot Conference on Social Issues, which runs from Tuesday to Wednesday.
