Deputy Prime Minister Silvan Shalom said Monday that Israel's relinquishing the Golan Heights to Syria "is not up for discussion." He was responding to reports last week that Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu was open to negotiating return of land taken from Syria in the Six Day War of 1967.

The Likud lawmaker said negotiations were a proper step, but Israel must continue to insist that Syria stop assisting terror. He specificly mentioned the Damascus government's sponsorship of Hamas, Hizbullah and Islamic Jihad, as well as its role in the flow of weapons from Iran to Hizbullah.
