IDF Chief of Staff Gabi Ashkenazi said that he expected at least two batteries of the "Iron Dome" defense system to be operative within a year. The system is designed to ward off Kassam and mortar shell attacks by Gaza Arabs in the Negev.
Ashkenzai made the statement Tuesday at a meeting of the Knesset Foreign Affairs and Defense Committee.
