On Monday night, while Jews in Europe and elsewhere mark the 71st anniversary of the Kristallnacht pogroms, when Germans went on a rampage against Jews, as well as their homes, businesses, synagogues and other insitutions, most of Europe will be celebrating the 20th anniversary of the fall of Berlin Wall.

The Kristallnacht observances also come two days after anti-Semites sprayed swastikas on a new synagogue in Dresden, Germany. The swastikas, illegal in modern Germany, were found on one wall of the new building Sunday morning, and police are investigating.
