The High Court on Monday will consider a petition brought by National Union MK Aryeh Eldad and the Legal Forum for the Land of Israel demanding that President Shimon Peres refund what they said was $320,000 in illegal campaign contributions he received in December 2004, when he ran for leadership of the Labor Party.
According to the petition, the State Attorney's office at the time suggested that Peres refund the money to the state's coffers. The petition asks current Attorney General Menachem Mazuz to enforce that decision, and demands that the Knesset Ethics Committee discuss the issue as well.
