A MiG-23 airplane arrived in Israel this week, becoming the second such plane to enter the country and the first to enter in 20 years. The plane was imported by parachuting instructor Dan Mokdi, who gave an Israeli “Agur” plane in exchange.
The first MiG-23 plane arrived in Israel in October 1989, when a Syrian pilot landed in the Galilee and requested political asylum. The event thrilled military experts, who were able to examine the plane – then the primary craft in Syria's air force – for the first time.
The plane is now on display at the Air Force Museum in Hatzerim.
