Opposition leader Tzipi Livni called Saturday for Israelis to see Judaism as “a national matter, of a nation's shared history, various community cultures, and a tradition of religion – and not something monopolized by hareidi parities.” Livni made her comments at a memorial rally in Tel Aviv for Prime Minister Yitzchak Rabin.

Livni also told the audience that only by accepting the presence of an Arab state in Judea and Samaria (Yehudah and Shomron) can Israel remain Jewish. “Israel will continue to be the state of the Jewish nation, part of the free world, a strong state in the Middle East that, when necessary, is prepared to fight with those who do not accept its existence – this is something the Right and Left agree on, and this will happen only if we accept a state of another nationality as a neighbor.”
