Iranian officials said Saturday that they would not agree to a Western offer to exchange low-enriched uranium for reactor fuel. The decision was announced by the Iranian ISNA news agency, which quoted Parliamentary National Security head Alaeddin Boroujerdi.
Western nations have proposed that Iran ship more than one ton of low-enriched uranium to Russia and France, where it would be enriched to 20 percent, processed, and returned. The proposal aimed to stop Iran's domestic uranium enrichment while allowing for the use of uranium for energy and for medical purposes.
