Attorney General Menachem Mazuz said on Friday that the State Prosecutor is not subject to any minister. The statement comes against the backdrop of friction earlier this week between Prosecutor Moshe Lador and Justice Minister Ya'akov Ne'eman.

Speaking at a conference in Neve-Ilan, west of Jerusalem, Mazuz said it's the prosecutor's duty to warn the public about matters which he is responsible for. The attorney general added that the prosecutor has been given certain authority and acts as an envoy of the public, representing the state and and the public at large. One in this position must warn of the public interest being harmed if he feels the threat.
