Rivlin to Support Special Attorney for Bribery Cases

Knesset Speaker Reuven Rivlin is expected to announce his support today for a Kadima party compromise on the issue of splitting the roles of attorney general into prosecutor and legal advisor to the government. In remarks prepared for an address before the Forum for Law and Society, the Likud lawmaker says the possibility should be studied of a special prosecutor to deal with cases of elected officials and government corruption.

He explains, "It's possible that the parade of convicted and accused of government corruption in recent years has turned the matter into a phenomenon which does not allow the existing model to continue on its present basis. Therefore, it's definitely possible that the existing model has to be re-examined," in the spirit of the Kadima compromise.
