Forty Knesset members have signed a petition calling for the exoneration of four police officers who were accused of planting a bomb under a vehicle that was to be driven by a Nahariya crime boss. The officers were convicted of taking the law into their own hands after authorities were unable to make a case against the criminals for a series of bombing attacks on police and prominent Nahariya residents. Each was sentenced to a year in prison.
The petition was organized by MK Aryeh Bibi (Kadima), head of the Knesset lobby for police and prison workers. The petition calls on President Shimon Peres to pardon the officers. Peres is not obligated to act on it.
