A Jewish family took up residence in a house in the Shimon Hatzaddik neighborhood Tuesday, one of 28 homes that were under the ownership of the Sephardic Community until Jews were expelled from the area during th 1948 War of Liberation. After the war, the homes were occupied by UN personnel and Arab families. The Sephardic Community organization has the ownership papers for the property, and the courts have found them to be valid – but the occupying Arabs still refuse to vacate the homes.
On Tuesday, police accompanied the Jewish family which took up residence in one of the homes, after a Jerusalem court affirmed the right of the Sephardic Community, as the house's owners, to the family. The Arab family that occupied the home refused to leave, and police were attempting to complete their evacuation without resorting to force.
