Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu announced Sunday that he would leave children born in Israel of undocumented foreign workers until the end of the school year. He added that their situation must be solved within the framework of the overall situation facing the foreign workers.
Responding to the decision, Member of Knesset Nachman Shai (Kadima) said the prime minister was leaving the children at the mercy of Interior Minister Eli Yishai. He added, "The prime minister offered the children on the altar of the coalition."
Fellow Kadima MK Rachel Adatto said that establishing a professional committee on the children's question under the leadership of Yishai was a way of masking Netanyahu's capitulation to the Shas party leader. She accused the prime minister of choosing political stability over the moral, human and correct way.
