The ministerial committee on legislation approved a draft of a new flight law on Sunday. Passing the law, the first of its kind, is one of the main conditions placed by the United States Federal Aviation Administration on returning Israel to Category 1 for flight safety.

Israel was downgraded to Category 2, characteristic of Third World countries, against the backdrop of safety shortcomings that were discovered by Israel's Civil Aviation Authority in the level of flight control.
