The Knesset Law Committee will on Sunday discuss a law proposed by Mks Danny Danon and Nissan Horovitz that would prevent children from being put in jail. The law, drawn up in coordination with human rights groups, would apply to the children of foreign workers as well, and would prevent what Horovitz called the "horrible scenes" of very young children of foreign workers jailed for months at a time.
"We have been discussing the issue of the children of foreign workers for months," Horovitz said. "We cannot remain silent at the sight of young children of these workers jailed, sometimes for months. Regardless of the eventual decision made on their residency status, we cannot act barbarically to them."
