Bar-Ilan Students: We're Tired of Apologizing

Chairman Gilad Bar-Gil of the Bar-Ilan University student's association said during an assembly to mark the anniversary of the assassination of Prime Minister Yitzchak Rabin on the Hebrew calendar, "Every year, with the approach of the memorial day for Prime Minister Yitzchak Rabin, we are witness to a tendency to turn this holy and important memorial day into days in which accusations full of hate and alienation are flung at a big and important sector of Israeli society. Today, 14 years later, the time has come to say 'Enough! the humiliating murderer did not come from us.'"

Noting that convicted assassin Yigal Amir was a law student at Bar-Ilan, Bar-Gil continued, "He did not draw his crazy ideas from his surroundings or his kippah-wearing acquaintances. We don't have to apologize. As those who take a substantial role in leading Israeli society, in the Israel Defense Forces, in the justice system, in the economy and academia, we will stand with them against the claims and say without hesitation, 'Our hands did not spill this blood.'
