President Shimon Peres said Thursday afternoon at the state memorial service for assassinated prime minister Yitzchak Rabin that, "I am proud of what we achieved under Yitzchak's leadership, on our common journey, even if the work has not been completed."

The president added, "The policy of peace and the social policy of the Rabin government advanced the international status of Israel. They accelerated the wheels of the economy. They began to narrow social gaps. They aroused optimism and big hope. Even those who disagreed on Yitzchak's war of doing things appreciated his policy. Even his opponents respected him."
