A pamphlet published by MK Ronit Tirosh (Kadima) and other MKs encouraging Israelis not to pay new, higher taxes on water “will bring the Knesset to a new low,” MK Shai Hermesh (Kadima) said Thursday.
"As head of the Knesset's agricultural lobby, my voters might be the primary victims of the water shortage, but it would never occur to me to teach them how to break the law or get around it,” Hermesh said. “From the moment a bill passes into law, it is everyone's law and we must uphold it.”
Knesset Speaker Reuven Rivlin had similar criticism for Tirosh and her supporters, saying, “An MK's duty is not to teach the public how to rebel against the law, but rather, to act to change the law if he believes it should be fixed.”
