The Knesset subcommittee on foreign workers will meet Wednesday to discuss the issue of Israel's porous southern border, and the problem of the thousands of foreigners who sneak into the country annually seeking work. The meeting Wednesday will, for the first time, focus on the entry of foreigners into the country, as opposed to discussing ways to improve border security, which has occupied the committee in the past.
Subcommittee chairman MK Yaakov Katz said that his panel viewed the illegal immigrants as a "strategic threat." Katz said that the subcommittee would demand to know why a fence has not yet been built along most of the border.
