Chairman Natan Sharansky of the Jewish Agency for Israel announced on Monday that the agency will recruit more than 100 young emissaries over the next two years to join the 20 who currently promote Israel and the Jewish people on North American college campuses. He made the announcement during a conference on the struggle against anti-Semitism by the agency's board of trustees which is meeting in Jerusalem.
Sharansky said the recruitment program fits in with one of the agency's central goals, that of strengthening the bond between Jews of the Diaspora and the state of Israel. He added that during his last visit to North America, he was made aware of the troublesome phenomenon of students renouncing all connections with Israel because of anti-Israel and other anti-Semitic attacks on campus.
