The Knesset’s Constitution Committee will begin on Monday to discuss preparation for a first reading of what is known as the “Nakba Law”.
According to a proposal initiated by MK Alex Miller of the Yisrael Beiteinu party, institutions and organizations supported by the state will be prohibited from organizing events depicting Israeli independence as a “disaster”. The law will also make it an offence to deny the existence of Israel as the State of the Jewish people as well as its democratic character. It will also forbid the supporting of armed struggle or terrorism against Israel and incitement to violence against the Jewish State. Institutions that break the law will be fined.
