The ministerial committee on legislation rejected on Sunday a proposal by Likud Member of Knesset Danny Danon that would have created college credit for students who serve more than 21 days of military reserve duty a year.

Responding to the decision, the Im Tirtzu movement, which supports reserve duty, said, "Apparently it is considered of value to get credit for table tennis and public sing-alongs in different academic institutions, and more valued by the council on higher education, than the value of service and self-sacrifice of students who go to reserve duty and are willing to make the sacrifice for the public and the state."
