Despite opposition from residents, environmental groups and the municipality, the Herzliya Airport will likely remain operational for at least five more years. The anticipated decision is part of current negotiations by the National Planning and Building Council.
The municipality said it opposes the continued use of the airport because its location in the center of a residential area makes it a hazard, and the land it occupies is zoned for housing. According to Haaretz, the Airports Authority says the council hasn't handed down its final decision yet.
