Eilat hotels only posted 70 percent occupancy for September despite the Rosh Hashana and Yom Kippur holidays occurring during the month, according to a report from the Israel Hotels Association. In 2008, without any holidays coinciding, September occupancy rates topped 79 percent.
Association sources said September’s proximity to the summer vacation month of August, in addition to the overall decrease in tourism, led to the downturn.
