Following Israeli reports of confirmed typhus cases involving Israelis who visited Chabad houses in Nepal, all workers who were present in the Chabad kitchens during the recent holidays were inspected and found free of the illness, Yeshiva World News reported. The tests were requested by Tel Hashomer Hospital’s tropical disease unit director Professor Eli Schwartz who accused the Jewish centers of propagating the disease.
Chabad officials said that the travelers admitted to eating sandwiches and vegetarian foods in other areas, contradicting Israeli reports that they ate exclusively at Chabad kitchens.
