MK Ariyeh Eldad (National Union) asked Deputy Defense Minister Matan Vilnai in the Knesset on Wednesday why the IDF paid the fine of an IDF officer who leaked personal documents of an IDF soldier to the press.  

An Israeli court fined IDF General Elazar Stern NIS 31,500 for leaking private documents about IDF soldier Hanalel Dayan to Yediot Achronot journalist Yair Lapid. Lapid later wrote a piece ridiculing Dayan who refused to shake the Chief of Staffs hand due to his part in the destruction of Gush Katif. Vilnai refused to answer Eldad’s question.
