Jerusalem Light Rail Test Runs Weeks Away

The cabinet on Monday approved a draft of a bill that implements the running of light rail service. The bill is designed to allow test runs of the Jerusalem light rail system with no passengers to see if the equipment works and how it mixes in with vehicular and pedestrian traffic.

The first run is expected during the next few weeks between the French Hill depot and Nevi'im Street near downtown Jerusalem. Citipass, the company that is running the project, informed Transportation Minister Yisrael Katz last month that the engineering and infrastructure work on the line will be finished in six months, when work begins on control systems, stations and electric lines.
